The Oregon State University Foundation honored Patricia Valian Reser, ’60, Hon. Ph.D. ’19, with the Lifetime Trustee award at a celebration during its winter board meetings on February 24, 2022. The award is the Foundation’s highest recognition for volunteer leaders.
Reser has made extraordinary contributions to the university through her service and philanthropy. Beyond her role as an OSU Foundation trustee, including 10 years on the executive committee, Reser co-chaired the billion-dollar Campaign for OSU and was the inaugural chair of the university’s governing board. Reser’s leadership gifts have supported many academic and athletic university facilities as well as students, programs and faculty.
Eric Schoenstein, current chair of the OSU Foundation board, presented the award, saying, “Pat is the North Star of what I try to achieve in my volunteer leadership, and I know many others would agree.”
The hybrid in-person and virtual celebration also featured recorded remarks about Reser’s deep impact on the university and the state from Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and Oregon U.S. Rep Suzanne Bonamici as well as Oregon State Interim President Becky Johnson, OSU Foundation President and CEO Shawn L. Scoville, OSU President Emeritus Edward J. Ray and others.

Pat has helped to put Oregon on the map.
Oregon Governor Kate Brown
As expected, Pat was warm, reassuring and, as always, ended the conversation by saying, ‘Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.’ Well, Pat Reser has been helping OSU students, faculty and staff for many years, and it just keeps going.
Becky Johnson, interim president, Oregon State University
Pat’s skills as a savvy business leader made her an exceptionally valuable trustee. But behind her strength in business is a gifted educator. The best teachers don’t just share important lessons. They inspire us to become our best selves. And that’s what Pat has done – for me, for our board, for our university.
Shawn L. Scoville, president and CEO, OSU Foundation
Thank you, Pat, for impactful and strong leadership, for sharing so much of your heart with us and OSU, and for showing us how to embrace this work of giving of ourselves like you have to make OSU and the world a much richer and meaningful place.
